Omega has been the official timekeeper for about 28 Olympiads since 1932 and to commemorate Tokyos second time hosting the Olympics in 2020, 5 versions of limited edition Speedmasters were released, one in each colour representative of the Olympics rings.
Symbolically, these limited editions will likely hit home for collectors on both a personal and horological level as the 2020 Olympics were actually held in 2021, owing to the COVID 19 Pandemic, diverging from the engraved “Tokyo 2020” on each watch.
Whether the above dictates collectability or not, this Speedy stands apart from the rest, whether as a commemorative novelty or as a Speedmaster in a league of its own.
Clean yet attention-grabbing, upscale yet restrained, this speedy takes black and gold to a whole other level.
The bezel, crown pushers, logo, handset, subdial registers and markers are fashioned out of solid 18k yellow gold that adds just the right amount of flair to an otherwise tooltastic timepiece.
The stock bracelet on this model was identical to the standard 1861 Speedy, but has been swapped out for a current generation quick adjustment bracelet that usually pairs to the Sapphire Sandwich.
This pairing doesn’t just aide comfort but also highlights the gold accents and in my opinion, present a better value than the stock bracelet.
In overall excellent condition, the only sign of wear of wear is a superficial hairline to the clasp, that can only be seen in some angles.
Included is the double box, manual, polishing cloth, warranty and picto card, extra links and the serial card.
The last time this was up for sale on the forum, it was $10,995 on the original bracelet
I’m asking a ridiculous $9799 shipped from the GTA
.
