Up for sale is a beautiful and elegant vintage IWC in solid 18k yellow gold. Reference R1405 with the highly regarded manual-wind Caliber 402. This classic 33.2mm dress watch perfectly captures the refined, minimalist style of IWC’s Schaffhausen heritage from the late 1960s/early 1970s.
Key Specifications:
• Case: Solid 18k yellow gold (marked 0.750 / 18k on the case back), 33.2mm diameter. Slim, rounded “disco volante” profile with snap-on case back. Excellent proportions that wear comfortably on the wrist.
• Dial: Pristine silver sunburst dial with applied gold baton hour markers and matching gold hands. Clean, signature IWC design with no date window — pure vintage elegance.
• Movement: IWC Caliber 402 (17 jewels, manual winding). This was one of IWC’s final high-quality hand-wound movements, known for its reliability, thin profile, and excellent finishing. Serial number 1942345 dates the watch to approximately 1969–1970.
• Strap: Black alligator-pattern leather strap that complements the gold case perfectly.
The watch is in very good overall condition with light signs of wear consistent with its age. The case shows minor surface scratches and some honest patina on the lugs and bezel, adding to its vintage charm. The dial remains clean and attractive with no major flaws.
