I have some watches coming and sacrifices must be made! For sale is my Hamilton-Ricoh Electric circa 1962-1964. I am selling this watch at my cost for a quick sale!

Please forgive me for writing some details as to why I find electric (and tuning fork) movements so fascinating. Mechanical movements were first invented in 13th century and changed timekeeping from continuous processes e.g. water clocks etc. to repetitive oscillatory processes such as swing of pendulums (which essentially is the basis of mechanical escapement that we have in every modern mechanical watch). I find it fascinating that humans were dependent on mechanical movements/technology for 700 years before the invention and revolution of quartz technology (which by the way is also a repetitive oscillatory process). As an electrical engineer myself, I also find the decade of 60s very interesting as this decade bridged the 700 years old mechanical technology to the new quartz technology. A decade which is 1.43% of the ~700 years history of mechanical movements! Just imagine the impact and the excitement. During this decade we had the following evolution; pure mechanical movements -> mechanical movements powered by electricity (such as this Hamilton-Ricoh electric FS today!) -> tuning fork movements powered by electricity -> quartz movement powered by electricity.

The Hamilton-Ricoh was a joint venture which only existed between 1962-1964 and with limited watches produced, which I would argue are more rare than the similar Hamilton Electric watches.

Condition: The Hamilton-Ricoh FS today is in good vintage condition, there is some patina on the edges of the dial, service history is unknown, watch keeps good time. I installed a new energizer 387s battery (battery type selected per the recommendation of one of the leading experts on these Hamilton electric watches) and was pleasantly surprised to see the excellent condition of the movement (attaching photos/video taken during battery replacement below). Please refer to the photos for accurate representation and ask for more if needed (watch roll in photos is not part of the sale).

What's included: watch on black NATO strap (watch roll in photos is also not part of the sale). I did not find time to get one, but this watch would rock on a nice strap.

Price: C$200 (with NATO strap) or C$180 (head only); net to me.

Weekend bump!

I digressed and mentioned tuning fork movement in the write up but want to make clarify that this Hamilton-Ricoh FS is an electric watch, as mentioned in the title of the post and evident from the photo and video of the movement.
