Newcomer - Hello!

Hi all - just recently joined this forum, happy to be here! I'm primarily Toronto-based, but I bounce between here and London, UK fairly regularly.

Gained an interest in watches recently, and seem to have fallen down the rabbit hole into a whole new world. Have been learning a lot about watches recently, and it's been a lot of fun slowly figuring out what I like seeing all the beautiful, complex, and sometimes downright crazy things people can put into a machine that fits on a wrist.

Looking forward to being part of this community!

Welcome aboard! It is a fun rabbit hole for all that! Have you found a type or brand you hover around more than another?

Thanks very much! I definitely gravitate more towards minimal, dressier style watches at the moment - but I like learning about all the different types of tool watches and how they’ve been used throughout history.

I do find it a bit amusing how overbuilt some of these watches are (I mean, when am I ever going to dive 300m deep or go into an MRI scanner with a watch on my wrist) but I guess that’s part of the charm!

Thanks! I consider myself to be very lucky to be able to live in what I consider to be two great cities of the world - even if they’re both eye-wateringly expensive! I’m very happy, but my wallet is very sad (even more so after discovering this hobby)

Charm is certainly the right word for it…I do gravitate towards what are called the tool watch category: pilot/flieger watches. There are those that over do it, for sure…ridiculously slow, but there are many that hit a pleasant middle spot: clean, modest legible dials, strong built….,
