Up for grabs is the fan favourite and unequivocally playful, Tag Monaco Gulf Edition.
These rarely pop up for sale on the secondary market, at an accessible price tag nonetheless and are increasingly hard to come by at the AD, since most only get a couple a year.
An upgrade to the previous ETA based calibers with a chronograph module, this version is endowed with the in house Caliber TH20 movement featuring an 80 hour power reserve, vertical clutch system and the very vibrant orange coloured column wheel, running at a very respectable COSC level of -5s/day. The only difference between the Cal 02 and the TH20, is rotor and the latter featuring bidirectional winding.
The watch is in overall pristine condition, save for tiny nick on the upper right corner of the crystal, virtually unnoticeable, except at certain angles.
The watch has essentially been unworn except for the pictures and the only signs of wear are to the large leather strap caused by the crimping of the deployant buckle.
Unlike the previous generation of the Monaco’s, this one features a 12 hour counter at 9, where the previous version featured a 30 min counter.
The Gulf colours are also a bit more sparse on these models, allowing for the dominant blue of the dial to take centre stage, and a truly deep petroleum blue it is.
Pictured on my 7.3” wrist, the watch comes in at 39mm x 47.4mm x 15.1mm
The watch comes as a full kit and is as iconic to the horological world as it is to the world of Motorsports; Steve McQueen would be proud.
This kit includes the double box, manuals, warranty card, carrying pouch, and outer sleeve, with warranty until the very last day of 2029.
