Sold Rare Birks Rolex Standard circa 1933

Decided to remove this one from the antique mall and sell it here along with a couple of other less expensive watches. I was missing the interactions I had with forum members here. I realized selling watches this way was the only fun thing I did to give me a break from working.

I've received messages from everywhere I have this watch listed asking if this watch is "real"

Here's a similar dialed watch from Watches To Buy. Same dial design, hands and movement. Sutton made gold filled case. Dial is marked Rolex Standard.

Derek Dier sold that watch for $4000 USD. Pretty sure whoever buys my watch will be getting a bargain.

This isn't a Submariner or GMT Master but rather an interesting piece of Canadian retail history.

Officially, Rolex (Canada) Ltd. was an official subsidiary of The Rolex Watch Company, Geneva for decades for import reasons. Rolex rarely allowed retailers to put their own name on a Rolex watch without the Rolex name attached. That in the early 1930's Rolex Canada allowed Birks to do this shows how much clout Birks had. The only other company permitted to do this was Eatons with their Quarter Century Watches made by Rolex.

I know there's a collector out there who will appreciate this watch. I've owned it for over 20 years and hate to let it go, but as the saying goes, needs must.

I received a PM from a member here who I respect immensely, asking me to give this one another chance on CWC.

I'm offering a 20% discount on my cabinet at the antique mall, so I will make the same offer here:

$1600 CAD

I'll cover the shipping if it needs to be shipped.

I don't have to pay a commission to the antique mall and the buyer won't have to pay tax.
