Here’s your opportunity to own an original vintage 1970’s Speedmaster at a great price! A transitional model of sorts, the 145.022-74ST is a rare and under-appreciated Speedmaster reference. Unlike the -71ST that preceded it, the -74ST has a domed rather than stepped dial, yet it retains the same logo and script as the -71ST (and the -69ST). This configuration was only in production for a short period from 1974 to 1976 when a new script debuted on the -76ST.

Movement #3132XXXX suggests mid 1971 movement production. However, the watch would have been assembled in 1974 or 1975. Omega did not practice accurate inventory control or record-keeping during this period and movement components seemingly sat around for years before assembly. The low movement number is within the accepted range for 74ST production and there is nothing to suggest it is not original.

Calibre 861; manual wind. Watch does keep time and the chronograph functions, but the reset pusher sticks. Service recommended.

Overall Condition is fair+. I purchased this watch from the long-time owner in Northern Ontario and it is presented “as found”.

The dial is very good. Correct domed C2 variant with “short open S” stamped logo and short indices. Tritium lume is intact and like many Speedmasters from the 1970s it features a nice even mint green patina.

The hands are good. They appear to be original to the watch. Though there is some lume loss on the minute hand, the tritium has developed a pleasing patina.

The bezel is fair. Correct and original DNN B2 variant. Some paint loss and a ding near the 75 mark but very presentable.

The crystal appears to be the signed original. I’ve cleaned it up with some Polywatch but a proper polish would make it look even better.

The case is fair+. Though the lines are fairly sharp, there are scratches, flea bites, and a few dings that hold it back. This is a tool watch that was used for purpose by its former owner(s)!

The case back is good. Correct stamped Hippocampus medallion and 145022-74ST marking.

The pushers and crown may or may not be original. If not, they at least appear to be older service replacements. As noted the chronograph reset pusher sticks.

Offered on the original 1171/633 bracelet. NB: the original 633 end links appear to have been fitted with a hammer; 2 genuine Omega 633 service end links are included to improve aesthetics.

This one is a catch and release for me; I’d like to free up some funds to cover the cost of other Speedy-related projects. My loss could be your gain!

Asking $4999 + insured shipping via FlagShip. F2F in the London area also possible.
